In recent times I have streamlined my working life so that I now solely
work in a Sports Massage Therapy capacity. Prior to this I have gained
considerable background history within other aspects of the Fitness
Industry, notablyb in Gym Instruction, Swimming and Triathlon Coaching
and also Spinning Teaching. These also reflect over 20 years of knowledge
gained from my triathlon racing.
Gym Instruction
YMCA Level 2 Fitness Trainer award.
1995-2001
I worked at Cannons Health Clubs (City and Covent Garden branches)
as part of the Fitness Team as a Gym Instructor on a part-time basis.
This involved taking 1 to 1 consultations with new members and advising
them on training programmes suitable for their needs, whether it
be for weight management, toning, increased cardiovascular fitness
levels
or muscle bulk building. Swimming and Triathlon Coaching
BTA Level 2 Triathlon Coach
ASA Prelim Swim Teacher
In the course of my gym instruction and sports massage work, I
have helped many athletes to develop running and triathlon training
programmes
as well as to plan out their racing seasons.
I worked as a swim coach with Swim for Tri for 2 years (2004-2006)
at their Kensington Sports Centre base as well as on their 1 day
courses in Walthamstow.
I currently coach just 1 athlete due to lack of available free time.
We work on a 1 to 1 swimming coaching basis. In the past decade I
have worked with many triathletes for 1 to 1 swim teaching and coaching
purposes. Spinning Teaching
Schwinn Certified Spinning Instructor
Fit to Perform Studio Cycling Instructor
2000-2004
I moved away from my gym instruction work at Cannons and into teaching
Spinning from April 2000.
For me, becoming a Spinning Instructor was a move that enabled
me to utilise my competitive cycling experience from my triathlon
years
and
build upon my teaching and presentation skills also.
In the 5 years that I taught spin classes at both Holmes Place
(now Virgin Active) and Cannons gyms I always aimed to keep intensity
levels and motivation high, offering relevant information on technique
and
focus throughoutv the class. I always tried to make my classes
varied
and fun with the use of interesting choreography and high energy
music.
